Finnish design genius Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) found creative inspiration in wild and harsh nature. Spending his days in a small cabin deep in the Finnish forests, he sought a magical connection with nature and the processes at work within it. It was here that the most remarkable forms and concepts of his creations were conceived, capturing the essence of untouched materials with incredible sensitivity.
Among Tapio's most renowned glass collections is ULTIMA THULE. Inspired by the transformation of melting ice seen in the far north, the designer endeavoured to give glass a similar appearance. Defying traditional glassblowing norms, Wirkkala dedicated over a thousand hours experimenting and attempting to replicate nature's perfection. The ULTIMA THULE collection features gently softened forms and a unique surface texture, intimately reflecting the principles and essence of northern nature.
The ULTIMA THULE sparkling wine glass design showcases a wonderful symbiosis of art and design. The glasses' unconventional yet distinctive form adds a touch of originality and exclusivity to celebratory rituals. Brimming with light sparkling wine, they wonderfully adorn the table and feel remarkably elegant to hold.
