Jeweler and designer Kay Bojesen had a rare talent – he could breathe life into wood. It’s no surprise that the wooden toys he created still captivate people today with their soul-piercing gaze and childlike playfulness. Kay's journey into toy design began in 1919, after the birth of his first son. He wanted to create something that would nurture his child’s imagination and encourage play. He became fascinated with wooden animals – not realistic replicas, but stylized characters that spark the imagination. Soft, rounded, and pleasant to the touch, shaped with lines that seem to smile - or make others smile – Kay’s wooden creatures enchanted not only children but adults too, becoming a cherished part of Danish cultural heritage. Even after his passing, the Bojesen family ensured that Kay’s beloved characters would continue to bring joy. Today, the ROSENDAHL DESIGN GROUP is responsible for developing, producing, and distributing the KAY BOJESEN brand - a mission they carry out with great care and dedication.
