In 1860, writer Hans Christian Andersen crafted a decorative paper heart and used it as a small basket for holiday treats. This simple gesture is believed to have sparked the beautiful tradition of weaving Christmas hearts – handmade ornaments that Danes use to decorate Christmas trees and present symbolic gifts.

Architect Henning Holmstedt’s family also loved gathering around the crafting table, but instead of sticking to traditional hearts, they began experimenting with different shapes and started making various birds out of paper. This warm family tradition eventually evolved into the authentic brand FLETTEDE FUGLE (which means “woven birds” in Danish). With its symbolic and emotionally rich yet stylistically refined bird designs, the brand encourages people of all ages to engage in a relaxing creative process that brings joy through both crafting and discovery. The FLETTEDE FUGLE collection includes 14 different bird species, which can either be woven by hand or purchased fully assembled and ready for decoration.
