Vipp

The story of VIPP begins with a Danish family and a simple yet ingenious idea – a pedal waste bin. VIPP was founded in 1939 by Holger Nielsen, who was born in 1915 in the town of Randers, Denmark. Trained as a metal turner, he opened his own workshop and shop.

In 1939, Holger married Marie Axelsen, who became a hairdresser and decided to open her own salon in Randers. She asked Holger for help, and among other things, she needed a waste bin with a pedal. Holger returned to his workshop and crafted what would become the very first VIPP pedal bin.

The bin quickly caught the attention of Marie’s salon clients. Some liked it so much they asked Holger to make one for them too. As demand grew, he began producing the bins on a larger scale. What started as a practical solution for his wife eventually became a design icon – and today, VIPP pedal bins can be found in doctor’s offices, hair salons, offices, and homes all across Denmark.
