Among Tapio's renowned glass collections is ULTIMA THULE. Observed as far north as possible, the metamorphosis of melting ice inspired him to experiment with similar forms in glass. Defying conventional glassblowing techniques, Wirkkala devoted over 1,000 hours to experimentation, striving to replicate the flawless artistry found in nature. The ULTIMA THULE collection's pieces feature fluid, seemingly melted forms and a unique surface texture that precisely captures the northern wilderness's essence.
