Christmas Wreath Weaving Guide with ferm LIVING
Part #1: Artistic and unusual
Weave your festive tales with a Christmas wreath
20th NOVEMBER 2023
Christmas is rich in traditions and customs, yet, even while embracing the spirit of Christmas passed down through the generations, we can infuse it with a bit more individuality and uniqueness. The Danish brand ferm LIVING encourages you to create the iconic festive symbol – the Christmas wreath – in a different style this year, using decorative rings from the DECO FRAME collection.
ferm LIVING invited Anne-Mette Trolle, a professional florist based in Copenhagen and founder of Blooming Studio, to guide you on an inspirational journey. By following Anne-Mette's easy step-by-step guide, you'll craft an extraordinary decoration – an artistic and unusual Christmas wreath. The links provided can also serve as an inspiration hub: simply let your creative curiosity lead you and improvise.
Artistic and unusual Christmas wreath
For her vibrant wreath, Anne-Mette selected the following plants:
Red amaranth – remove all leaves as they wilt quickly and discolour.
Mimosa – visually resembles conifers, but is distinctly different.
Multi-flowered briar – red berries add a touch of artistic humour to the arrangement.
Apples – small apples, suggesting abundance and harvest preservation.
Eucalyptus with berries – a poetic plant: its leaves whispering with the faintest breeze offer a sense of movement and dynamics.
Ornamental cabbage – grounds the arrangement, imparting calmness and maturity.
"When crafting an artistic wreath, I let intuition lead me, shaping the form and texture as dictated by the chosen plants. Striking composition and the warm, rich hues of red and blue-green became the central features of this decor." Anne-Mette Trolle
Tools you need for weaving a wreath:
– Ring DECO FRAME from ferm LIVING. Anne-Mette used the smaller version, but for a more impressive wreath, confidently choose the L DECO FRAME ring.
– Brass wire. You may also use steel, but a warmer wire shade is a more complementary colour choice.
– Garden shears or wire cutters.
1. Select and prepare your materials.
2. Secure the wire end to the surface of the DECO FRAME ring, tightening it with a knot.
3. Next, take your selected plants one by one and affix them to the DECO FRAME foundation using wire. Wrap the wire around the plants snugly but be careful not to damage the stems.
4. Methodically attach all the foliage and decorative elements, one after the other. Bear in mind that varying sizes of elements create a pleasing rhythm in the composition and bring it to life.
5. Trust your intuition and decide when the wreath is complete! Leave a section of the DECO FRAME ring bare—it adds aesthetic balance and the elegance of precious metal to your design.
6. The DECO FRAME set includes a ribbon, which you can use to hang the wreath. Tie the ribbon ends into a bow or let them fall naturally amongst the plant branches.
7. Adorn doors, windows, or walls with the Christmas wreath.
That's all! Your original, expressive, and artistic Christmas wreath will bring joy throughout the festive season.
