Yngve Ekström was born in 1913 in Småland – a region home to Sweden’s oldest furniture factory. He began working there at the age of 13, which helped him develop a unique talent for working with wood. In the post-war years, alongside fellow designers Aalto, Mathsson, Jacobsen, and Kjaerholm, he became part of the internationally renowned Scandinavian Modern movement.
His furniture is featured in numerous collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Ekström had a distinct and personal style – one that has ensured many of his designs remain relevant and in production to this day.
