Wim Rietveld (1924-1985) was a Dutch industrial furniture designer. He graduated in industrial design in 1950 from The Hague Academy, and in 1953 became the design director at the furniture company Gispen. In 1958, he began working with the metal furniture manufacturer "De Cirkel," which merged with the "Ahrend" group in 1939. There, he met designer Friso Kramer, with whom Rietveld developed and refined a range of iconic furniture collections.
Rietveld was not only known as a furniture designer – he also created designs for agricultural machinery, ships, and trains.
