Louis Weisdorf (born in 1932) is an exceptionally talented architect and one of the youngest graduates ever from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts – he completed his studies at just 22 years old. Gifted in geometry and mathematics, it’s no surprise that when he assisted architect Simon P. Henningsen on the Tivoli Gardens project and was tasked with designing lighting fixtures, he created the highly intricate and geometrically complex Konkyli lamp. Weisdorf’s signature design style is marked by repeating geometric elements arranged in precise, complex sequences. His lighting designs were known for their structural sophistication, but due to their intricate construction and high production costs, many remained exclusive and out of reach for the wider public for years. The economic challenges of the 1970s pushed him to explore more viable production solutions. His dream of accessible, serial production became a reality with the Multi-Lite lamp collection – a design that remains in production today through the Danish brand Gubi.
