Kay Bojesen (1886–1958) was one of the pioneers of Danish design. Trained as a silversmith at the Georg Jensen workshop, he created silverware, tableware, and other objects of high artistic value. His most famous silver design – the Grand Prix cutlery series – won the top prize at the 1951 IX Triennale di Milano exhibition. But silver wasn’t the only material that fascinated him. In 1919, after the birth of his first child, Kay wanted to create something warm and charming that would captivate a child’s attention while stimulating imagination. This led to the creation of his first handcrafted wooden animals. Today, these beloved wooden figures continue to be cherished around the world – their enduring popularity and presence in world-renowned museums, including MoMA in New York, are a testament to their timeless appeal. Throughout his life, Kay Bojesen received numerous awards, and in 1952, he was appointed Chief Silversmith to the King of Denmark.
