Jørn Utzon (1918–2008) was one of the most influential Danish architects of the 20th century – and his work remains deeply relevant today. His most iconic architectural legacy is the Sydney Opera House. Contrary to popular belief, its striking forms were not inspired by sails, but by something much more unexpected – a segmented orange. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen political and financial complications, Utzon’s original vision for the Opera House was never fully realized. He and his family were forced to leave Australia, just as construction had begun. A visionary, original, and endlessly creative architect, Utzon went on to work on projects around the world and became a lasting source of inspiration for future generations.
