Jo Hammerborg (1920–1982) grew up in provincial Denmark in a typical middle-class family. From 1940 to 1945, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and, after training as a silversmith, worked for the renowned company GEORG JENSEN. In 1957, Hammerborg was appointed head designer at the lighting manufacturer FOG & MØRUP – a position he held until 1980. Ambitious and bold, he was highly respected both as a creator and as a leader. Under his direction, the design team developed over 190 original lighting models, many of which still shine with aesthetic value and understated elegance in today’s design landscape.
