Christian Dell (1893–1974) was born in Offenbach, Germany. Trained as a silversmith, he continued his studies at the Saxon Academy of Arts and Crafts in Weimar. After graduating, he worked in the metal workshop at the BAUHAUS art school and became one of the pioneers of modernist design. In 1926, Christian Dell began designing innovative lamps that quickly became some of the most popular models produced by GEBR. KAISER & CO. After World War II, he opened a small shop in Wiesbaden, where he sold a variety of metal and jewelry items, including his own handmade household objects and accessories, continuing to work there well into old age. His most significant creative legacy is the iconic KAISER idell™ lighting collection. Still in production today, it continues to captivate with its industrial Bauhaus aesthetic and carefully considered details. The collection is produced by Fritz Hansen.
