Bjørn Wiinblad (1918–2006) was a Danish artist who lived and worked in Copenhagen. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he trained as a ceramicist, painter, and poster designer. Energetic, sociable, and fond of celebration, Wiinblad stood out not only for his personality but also for his artistic style. His expressive lines, vibrant colors, and whimsical portraits of people were a stark contrast to the restrained aesthetics typically associated with Scandinavian design. Unsurprisingly, he faced criticism and was misunderstood for many years in his native Denmark.

In 1957, Wiinblad joined the renowned German porcelain manufacturer Rosenthal. Over time, his work gained international recognition and was eventually embraced at home as well.

In 1985, he was named Man of the Year in New York, and his creations became part of major museum collections around the world.
