Barba Corsini (1916–2008) was one of the most prominent functionalist architects, internationally recognized for his architectural and design work on the iconic Barcelona building La Pedrera. He was strongly influenced by German architect Mies van der Rohe and American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Corsini also felt a deep connection to Finnish architecture, which he believed stood out in Europe for its “powerful simplicity.” That very phrase – powerful simplicity – perhaps best captures Corsini’s design style and his Pedrera lamp series. In 1955, Corsini renovated the attic of La Pedrera, a masterpiece by Spanish modernist Antoni Gaudí, transforming it into loft apartments. The Pedrera lamps were designed specifically for these spaces, blending both classical and modern aesthetics. Some of the pieces were created solely by Corsini, while others were developed in collaboration with his protégé Joaquim Ruiz Millet.
