The ANT chair is credited as the first design that propelled the then budding architect and designer Arne Jacobsen to international fame. ANT's journey seemed unremarkable at first: in 1951, Arne Jacobsen was commissioned to create a dining chair for the international Danish company Novo Nordisk. With only a requirement for 300 chairs, it appeared this would mark the conclusion of ANT's story. However, Arne's foresight and genuine belief in his design persuaded manufacturer Fritz Hansen to continue its production and make it available to the wider public. “My work is driven by human needs,” said Arne Jacobsen at the time. “I've observed that people require a new type of chair for small kitchen spaces. <...> Chairs that can be stacked together and save both time and energy.” Architect Jacobsen's intuition was spot on, and over 60 years later, the ANT chair remains a modern design classic.
ANT chairs are crafted from 9 layers of high-quality moulded veneer. The compact yet comfortable ANT has captured the heart of users with its practicality, distinct design, and appealing aesthetics.
