Friso Kramer was born in Amsterdam in 1922. He studied interior design and began his career working for the steel furniture company De Cirkel. After De Cirkel merged with Ahrend, he was offered the position of art director. His most iconic works from this period include the REVOLT and RESULT chairs, as well as a concrete bench designed specifically for public spaces.
Kramer aimed for minimalism in his work, and his design philosophy could be described as “simplistic form in the shadow of function.” While the practicality of his furniture gained widespread recognition, it was the distinct, simplistic aesthetic – still modern by today’s standards – that gave his pieces their lasting uniqueness.
